Olivier Giroud has described Eden Hazard as a ‘magician’ and says he was left in awe of his Chelsea team-mate after their first training session together.

France striker Giroud left Arsenal to join Chelsea last January and says he was soon taken aback by Hazard’s skills in training.

Hazard has developed into one of the best players in the world since signing from Lille in 2012 and has made a superb start to the 2018-19 campaign.

Speaking to Le Figaro, Giroud said: ‘When I discover Eden Hazard in training for my first session at Chelsea. I told myself: “F**k, it’s hard to get the ball off him”.

‘Sometimes, there’s two or three players around him and he still manages to get out in tight spaces.

‘He’s a magician, he’s impressive. Now, I’ve started to know him and I don’t find myself near him. It’s better for him and for me.’

While Hazard has enjoyed a fine start to the season – scoring seven goals and providing four assists – Giroud has struggled to force his way into Maurizio Sarri’s starting XI.

Giroud had yet to score for the Blues this term before netting the winner in their Europa League clash with Bate Borisov before the international break.

Chelsea, who are currently third in the Premier League – four points adrift of leaders Manchester City, make the short trip to Wembley to face Tottenham on November 24.
