Mohamed Elneny has seen the red card he received on Sunday rescinded.

The Arsenal midfielder was sent off in the final few minutes of Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Southampton at the weekend.

The Egyptian was shown a straight red by referee Andre Marriner after a coming together with Cedric Soares.

In the moments before, Southampton’s Jack Stephers and Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere were involved in a tussle that saw the former sent off and the latter booked.

Then, as Southampton prepared to take a free-kick, Elneny wondered over and shoved Soares with his hand appearing to make contact with his opponent’s face.

Marriner consulted with one of his assistants before brandishing the red card.

Elneny looked stunned at the decision, with Wilshere also protesting the innocence of his team-mate but to no avail.

Arsenal appealed the decision which the FA have upheld.

An FA statement read: ‘Mohamed Elneny will be available for Arsenal’s next three games after an Independent Regulatory Commission accepted that he was wrongly dismissed for violent conduct against Southampton on Sunday, April 8, 2018.’
