Chelsea will demand at least £200million for Eden Hazard amid fears their star player will seek a fresh challenge after the World Cup.

The 27-year-old joined the FA Cup holders six years ago and has won every domestic honour available as well as the Europa League.

Hazard has been central to Belgium’s run to the semi finals of the World Cup in Russia, drawing fresh attention from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona who have both been long-term admirers.

Incoming Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, who is expected to be confirmed as Antonio Conte’s successor imminently, will attempt to persuade Hazard to commit the peak years of his career to the west London club with a new contract worth £300,000-a-week still on the table.

But the Daily Telegraph reports there is a mounting acceptance that Hazard will opt to test himself in a new league but will demand a fee close to the world record PSG paid last summer to bring Neymar to the French capital from Barcelona.

The reigning Spanish champions spent £90million on Ousmane Dembele last summer but are keen to bolster their forward line still further and are also said to be admirers of Hazard’s teammates N’Golo Kante and Willian.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will respond to the shock sale of Cristiano Ronaldo with a summer spending spree of their own and are almost certain to pursue Hazard.

Asked whether he was capable of playing for the best teams in the world Belgium manager Roberto Martinez said ahead of Saturday’s World Cup third place play-off match against England: ‘Eden is one of the most complete players in modern football.

‘There aren’t many players better than him in one-on-one situations, as he can dismantle a defence with a single action, but he also has a good personality and is a leader.

‘He is a team player, with a great winning mentality and you can really create a winning team around him.

‘He can play for any of the best clubs in the world.’
